5 days and counting...
And now the reviews start -- Austin360.com (affiliated with the Austin American-Statesman) has published a preview of three series beginning their seasons soon, and State of the Union is one of them. The critic liked Tracey's impression of Laura Bush and mentioned her treatment of last year's polygamist cult raids in west Texas, Renee Zellweger's musical take on those raids ("Seven Brides for Every Brother") and the ultimate in reality TV, "So You Think You Can Die?". Very interesting....
And in addition to appearing on CBS's The Early Show this coming Friday, Tracey will also be on E!'s Chelsea Handler show on April 22. (UPDATE from 4/14: she might be appearing on the 21st instead of the 22nd)
And lastly, The Tale of Despereaux came out on DVD and Blu-Ray today. Tracey was the voice of Miggery Sow in that, in case you've forgotten.
Update: the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Tracey will be the first recipient of the BAFTA/LA Charlie Chaplin Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy (BAFTA/LA is the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles). She'll receive it May 8 at the British Comedy Festival's awards ceremony. That sounds like quite an honor, and well-deserved. Congratulations, Trace!

Which Tale: Despereaux or Desperation?
I saw The Tale of Despereaux this past Sunday. I saw it at the Cineplex Odeon cinemas in Windsor, Ontario's Devonshire Mall. Given that I picked the weekend with the coldest weather of the season to take a short trip across the border, I didn't think making a trip to Point Pelee National Park was a good idea. Staying inside was an excellent idea. Besides, by going to the first showing of the day, I avoided listening to the broadcast of the Detroit Lions attempting to play the New Orleans Saints and pick up their first win of the season. You could call it The Tale of Desperation!
And what did I think of Tracey's work in Despereaux? She does her usual fine job in voicing the character of servant girl Miggery Sow, who dreams of being a princess (sentiments not shared by the one who gives her voice!). It was a good way to pass the afternoon. And after I heard the score of the Lions game (35 to 7 in favor of New Orleans, en route to an eventual 42-7 triumph), I knew I had made the right decision.

A few items of note
As we approach the end of the year, here are a few items I've noticed in the news:
- The Hollywood Reporter reported on the recent event at the Paley Center in LA that honored Carl Reiner and Showtime. Tracey was there to help honor Showtime, and she made an observation about The Tudors -- quoting: "attending school as a youngster in England, she believed that King Henry VIII was 'fat and bald. But when he's being brought to you in the 21st century by premium cable, he's Jonathan Rhys Meyers.'" The truth wouldn't have been as much fun....
- The Tale of Despereaux is opening on Friday, and the buzz appears to be good. Some promo clips and behind-the-scenes clips have appeared on YouTube, legitimately or otherwise....
- Tedd Thomey passed away earlier this month. What was his connection with Tracey? Well, he was the author (in the "as told to" sense) of The Big Love, the book that led to the 1991 Broadway play that starred Trace.
- And in 2 weeks, there will be important birthdays and anniversaries approaching (more on those later)

Some items of note
Let's see what's been happening lately...
Tracey was interviewed between bouts at Showtime's recent fight card (November 1) that featured Vic Darchinyan and Cristian Mijares. She mentioned that she'd just wrapped up 3 weeks of filming for State of the Union and would now be busy editing it for broadcast next year. Several of the sketches had alternate endings filmed in anticipation of either Obama or McCain winning the election; now those McCain endings won't be used except as possible deleted scenes on a DVD set. President-elect Obama was not among the 52 characters she will be portraying this season, but we will be seeing Laura Bush, Tom Brokaw and Tony Sirico. And we also learned that, after 25 years in this country, she still doesn't understand American football.
State of the Union season 1 is still coming out on DVD next Tuesday (11th). The Tale of Despereaux is still coming to a theater near you on December 19; Tracey is the voice of servant girl Mig.

Trailer for The Tale of Despereaux
When I went to see Wall-E at my local theater last Friday, one of the trailers was for The Tale of Despereaux, which is due out around Christmas. It's an animated film with an all-star cast, of which Tracey is a part. I believe her character was in the trailer, but I'm not positive of that; there is a scene in which Despereaux the mouse is closing the mouth of a screaming girl/woman, a scream which sounded a bit familiar to me.
This will probably be the next project we see (actually hear) her in, though I hope we have reason to see her at the Emmys in September.
